The Princeton Packet BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: Camillo’s a great spot for lunch, something special ...
Thursday, March 8, 2012
By Bradley Koltz
"I’ve been meaning to go to Camillo’s Café at the Princeton Shopping Center for a while now. It always looks inviting when I go past, which is often, but it’s usually when I’m running an errand or doing something else.
I finally made a special trip to the shopping center with lunch at Camillo’s in mind. You should stop reading this, right now, and go there for lunch or dinner. Seriously. It’s that good.
Okay, so if you’re still reading, I’m going to assume you’ve just come back. Great, wasn’t it? The service is attentive but unhurried, perfect for a business lunch where you want good food and time to chat, or a romantic weekend or evening meal.
I enjoyed an eggplant panini that was spectacular. The salads looked great, and to be candid, I’m not really a salad kind of guy. I’m also not the kind of guy who raves about pasta, but this was, well, it was wonderful.
If you haven’t been to Camillo’s, you should go and enjoy a memorable meal. Check them out online at www.camilloscafe.net."

The Best Jersey Restaurants of 2008 ... The Star -Ledger, Friday, December 26, 2008
"Camillo's Cafe has a clear philosophy -- passionate and authentic Italian cooking, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. Our favorites: marinated artichokes wrapped in prosciutto; kitchen-made pappardelle with sweet sausage; a velvety filet mignon..." "Some things do get better with age and Camillo’s Café is definitely one of them. Four and a half years ago Camillo’s was new to the Princeton dining scene. Situated off the beaten path in the Princeton Shopping Center, this quiet nook seemed to get little attention. Slowly, the restaurant made some structural changes, fine tuned its food and made its way onto the map. The restaurant now takes pride in its semi-exposed kitchen, al fresco dining (popular in warm weather), and an additional indoor space used for private parties and overflow..." "When one of my best friends turned 50 recently, I had to find the perfect spot to celebrate on this appropriately shaky day. I needed a place that was not too pricey but cozy. I needed a little haven that offered something we could all use more of on a daily basis-heart.
In my mind, Camillo's Cafe in the Princeton Shopping Center had the right mix and warmth for the occasion. And, while the decor is cozy and the menu is authentic, it is the tall man with the lovely Italian accent in the floppy chef's hat that infuses Camillo's Cafe with the ambience that makes it special." - Princeton Business Journal: Labors of Love by Diane Landis Hackett, November 14, 2006
"You know you're in Princeton when the philosophy of the restaurant is summed up by a Virginia Woolf quote:"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." And, as always, Woolf knows of what she speak."- Read the entire article from The Star-Ledger by Teresa Politano |
"What better way to relax and unwind than to enjoy the party at Camillo's Cafe! Now, even more people can join the party. Camillo's has just expanded to accommodate 70 guests for private parties. The space adjacent to the popular Princeton Shopping Center cafe became available, and executive chef and owner Camillo Tortola did not hesitate." -Read the entire article from the Town Topics by Jean Stratton

"...my husband, the mollusk lover, tried his favorite, zuppe de pesce, and pronounced it the best he has ever had. That's because the clams and mussels, salmon, and shrimp floated in a delicate red sauce with more heft than the usual fish broth."-U.S. 1, January 25, 2006 by Barbara Fox |

| "...this newcomer to Princeton Shopping Center makes you feel as if you're dining in the home of a friend...Mr. Tortola's cooking philosophy rests in the clarity inherent in fresh ingredients... the veal milanese is just right. Breaded veal cutlet is crisp outside, tender and buttery inside. It is topped first with tomato, then with a bright mound of zesty arugula dressed with lemon vinaigrette. I love the interplay between savory, sweet, sharp and citrus. It's all such a perfect combination, and Mr. Tortola prepares this with complete confidence."- Princeton Packet, April 28, 2006 by Antoinette Buckley |

"...Camillo's Cafe is delighted to offer Princeton diners authentic Italian cuisine... says Chef, Sommelier and Owner, Camillo Tortola, 'an Italian chef is like an artist. Italian food is so popular because of the culture of the country. The music, the way of life, the atmosphere. That is what I want to bring to my clients here. I want to bring the romance of Italy to you." -Town Topics, March 1, 2006 by Jean Stratton
"...Thanks, Nonna...A Red Sauce Trattoria with Style, in Princeton... pasta dishes are pleasing!....the best was a dish of fresh pappardelle, thick sleek ribbons arrived in a ragout rich with Italian sausage, pecorino cheese and a drizzle of white truffle oil..."-New York Times, May 28, 2006 |
